Target is closing a dozen stores — but not until after the holidays. The chain says the closings are part of a natural process of trying to refine its portfolio of stores, shutting a few every year to winnow out the losers while expanding with promising new ones. It came after parent company Wesfarmers deemed the current business model “unsustainable” in May last year.
The store is due to closed on May 8th , so that’s when everything will be cleared out.

Some Target stores will shut within weeks. The Target restructure is expected to take place over the next 12 months , although most activity is expected to occur next year.
How far away is the nearest target to Kmart?
Our nearest “local Target” is 2 hours away and that will be converted into a Kmart store. The next one is 3 hours away and it looks like this will remain as they already have a Kmart store as well as a Target store. Hopefully all the staff are given the opportunity to stay on if they so wish.
