Does dunking hurt your hand?

Dunking is painful. There is a consequence for slamming one’s hands, wrists and forearms against the rim. Falling from the sky takes its toll on the knees, endangers the ankles.

Your hands dunk the ball, and if anything, repeated dunking causes your fingers, not wrists, to take the brunt of the pain (if any). So the general answer to your question is NO. You’d have to jump pretty high, and dunk with considerable force — think early Vince Carter — to even have your wrists make contact with the rim on dunks.

The reason I state this is that whenever you’re high enough in the air to dunk, you’re also subject to injury even if you’re going to the basket uncontested since you could land incorrectly.

As someone who dunked all of once in my life in a game, I think it’s pretty simple. You just have to get your hand high enough over the rim to push the ball down, which basically means your wrist or maybe an inch further up the arm. If you can hold the ball in one hand, and can jump high enough, it’s not hard.

People are impressed by it if your goal is to dunk there are many factors that you will need to work on it especially, if you’re under six feet tall.
