Perhaps management at Sonic does not want their service to be treated as one that accepts tips, while the servers much prefer tips . The safest bet sounds like it is to tip because we all know what happens if we have unhappy servers. There are two obvious answers: 1) don’t tip, and 2) bring cash with you.

A friend of mine worked at sonic and she got paid minimum wage plus any tips she got. Maybe it was just becase it was a tiny town?, and no idea. Its never really dawned on me to tip at sonic tbh .
How much should I tip at sonic?
If you do tip at Sonic, the typical amount is either a couple of dollars or about 10% . After all, it is fast food, and not a full service restaurant.
I’m curious because Sonic seems to basically be a drive-thru that you can park in, and it’s not considered normal to tip someone at a Mc, and donald’s. UPDATE: I appreciate all your responses.
Do Sonic carhops make minimum wage?
I don’t know about Swensons, but at the Sonic I used to work at, the carhops are considered tipped employees, and therefore don’t typically make minimum wage., and yes please. I work at Sonic and our Wage is $4 and hour because we make tips on top of that.
While writing we ran into the question “How much do you make working at Sonic on average?”.
In Oklahoma it’s $2.13/hr plus tips. Luckily I got on when my Sonic was privately owned, so I make $4.00/hr. But it has now switched over to a corporately owned business. Mostly everyone tips. Or at least says, “just give me the bills back.” On average I’d say I make at least $30-$40 a shift.
How often do you tip at Starbucks?
I tip at the Starbucks that I go to roughly 5X a week. Once you become a regular AND a tipper they have your coffee ready for you exactly how you like it before you even get to the counter. I’ve also gotten other freebies and preferential treatment.
I always tip at least 15% and if the service is very good I will tip more. Never heard of Swenson’s, but at Sonic…yes…you should tip. You pull up in your car, punch a button, place your order, a Car Hop BRINGS the order to you.
