She credits a few reasons, including panic buying from last year, higher demand with more new hunters, and a manufacturer being down for about a year. Shotgun shells are in short supply due to a variety of reasons, frustrating hunters.
While I was researching we ran into the question “Why is there a shortage of shotguns in the US?”.
And there have been other supply chain issues. “Raw materials have been hard to come by for manufacturers coupled with disruptive supply chains,” King said. “For the shotgun sports this means there will be an ongoing shortage of ammo and components.
Unfortunately, most gun experts do not see manufacturers catching up to the market’s demand for ammo. So you can expect the ammo shortage this 2021 to last a few more months—or even years.
Bottom line, target load shotshells are the LOWEST on the list of items to run. I fully expect to see shortages in loaded shotshells and components through at least next summer, if not past this time next year. Vista is $1 BILLION behind in orders right now, and target shotshells will be a TINY percentage of that. Click to expand.
Does Cabelas sell 410 target shells?
I was in the local Cabelas and found very little target shells to choose from. They had 6 boxes of 28 ga and no .410 of any kind. My favorite on line source is also out of most things.
The very narrow bore of .410 shotguns results in them having a very tight pattern at home defense distances, meaning that even when firing buckshot, you might as well be aiming a single projectile. Without the advantage of increased hit probability, that’s just one more reason why .410 is not ideal for defense.
Also despite being smaller, .410 doesn’t even offer a price advantage over its more abundant bigger brothers.
