Where does ikea make their furniture?

Most of their products are designed in Sweden, with the actual manufacturing taking place in China and other developing countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar. Furniture manufacturing for IKEA also takes place in some European countries like Poland and Romania.

Here is what we ran into. iKEA’s furniture is designed in Sweden and manufactured in different places depending on raw materials availability, especially in developing countries such as Vietnam. Its furniture is also manufactured within European countries such as Poland and Romania.

While most of the IKEA products are designed in Sweden, much of the actual manufacturing takes place in China and in developing countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar, and also in Eastern European countries such as Romania and Poland.

While I was reading we ran into the question “Is IKEA furniture made in the Orient?”.

As others have answered not much is made in the Orient. The only items manufactured there are things like rattan furniture and bamboo products. IKEA will soon be doing a lot of manufacturing in the United States to eliminate supply chain issues and reduce the environmental impact of transporting products around the world.

What is IKEA furniture?

An IKEA living room. IKEA is the world’s largest furniture retailer, but it doesn’t manufacture the furniture it sells.

This of course begs the question “What is the history of IKEA?”

IKEA’s furniture business had its beginnings in the late 1940s when Ingvar Kamprad, the company’s founder and already a youthful entrepreneur, began selling via mail order the furniture produced by local manufacturers. As his business grew, Kamprad was able to supplant local advertising and word of mouth with a catalogue of furniture products.

What makes IKEA different from other retailers?

Customers could see for themselves the quality and value before ordering. In 1956, IKEA began designing its own exclusive furniture products and in that decision lies the difference that sets IKEA apart from other low-cost furniture retailers.
