This varies between companies. Most physical stores allow you to show your card and you are immediately given a discount. However, some of the bigger chains only give you money off if you purchase a gift card. This is done through the Blue Light Card website (or app).
Aldi only accepts the card as proof of employment for emergency workers and gives holders access to priority shopping times . It does not provide any discounts though.
