Why sonic boom?

A sonic boom occurs when an object moves faster than the speed of sound. As it moves through the air, it creates shock waves that can cause a loud, booming sound . It is mostly emitted by aircraft that travel at supersonic speeds.

Sonic boom is an impulsive noise similar to thunder . It is caused by an object moving faster than sound — about 750 miles per hour at sea level. An aircraft traveling through the atmosphere continuously produces air-pressure waves similar to the water waves caused by a ship’s bow.

Another popular query is “What is the speed of a sonic boom?”.

I discovered, and sonic boom. The sound source is travelling at 1.4 times the speed of sound (Mach 1.4). Since the source is moving faster than the sound waves it creates, it leads the advancing wavefront. A sonic boom produced by an aircraft moving at M=2.92, calculated from the cone angle of 20 degrees.

Sonic booms are easy to hear, but cannot be observed by the naked eye . As with other types of sound waves, sonic booms are generally only seen in photographs taken with sophisticated cameras. Sonic booms vary in duration and intensity.

You can learn a lot about sonic booms by looking at the wakes boats leave in the water. If you toss a pebble in a pond, little waves will form in concentric circles and propagate away from the point of impact.

A frequent inquiry we ran across in our research was “How can you tell if a sonic boom is visible?”.

This is what we discovered. when v = c, the sonic boom is visible. When v > c, the Mach cone is visible. The sound of a sonic boom depends largely on the distance between the observer and the aircraft shape producing the sonic boom. A sonic boom is usually heard as a deep double “boom” as the aircraft is usually some distance away .

Why do we hear a boom when a plane flies past?

If the plane breaks the sound barrier and flies faster than the speed of sound, it produces a sonic boom when it flies past. The boom is the “wake” of the plane’s sound waves. All of the sound waves that would have normally propagated ahead of the plane are combined together so at first you hear nothing, and then you hear the boom they create.

Why does sonic have one eye?

Sonic doesn’t have one big eye at all, it’s simply to give a sense of perspective so his face isn’t flat (if you look at the old model sheets for Mickey in the back of Ilusion of Life it mentions to draw his eyes like this when in a three-quarter view for this reason)..

Is it weird to see Sonic’s skin folding?

Its still weird how sonic didn’t really address that later on, its strange how in detailed models of sonic you can see his skin/fur/whateverthatbluestuffis folding and such .

Is Sonic similar to Felix the cat and Mickey Mouse?

I noticed that sonic is very similar to Felix the Cat and Mickey Mouse. One thing in particular, is that the classic Mickey Mouse design has a similar “Ridge” around his eyes to sonic. He doesn’t have one giant eye though because his entire face is just white.
